McCULLOCH Limited Edition EU Turbo 22HP Briggs Stratton ride on mower. 42” cutting deck. Owned for the last 5 years, serviced every year. Most recent service was in April 2017, photo attached to show what was completed. Has been an excellent mower, great for the lawn and for managing our paddock. It collects the grass well and the large grass bags are in good condition. The cutting deck is solid, rear tyres are nearly new. Sadly the mower has recently developed a fault. When you start the mower the engine runs very rough, it is back firing and smoking. It is very noticeable when you first start it up and the engine is cold, it improves as it gets up to temperature but it still runs roughly and still back fires and smokes. It does start, drive and cut however the more load you put on it the engine the more it smokes. It also is down on power.I sent it back to the mower shop where it gets serviced and they could not confirm what the fault was but that they suspected it was a gasket which would account for the smoke and rough running. It has been a great mower and until now has been 100% reliable but given I have already spent £250 on it this year and the fact that the mechanic could not be sure what the fault was I decided not to put any more money into it. I decided it was better to put the money that I would have used in repairing this one into buying a replacement mower. If you are mechanically minded, which sadly I am not, perhaps you could repair it and grab a bargain. I do need to stress though that I don’t know what the fault is, it may be solved by replacing the gasket but that might not be the issue. To re-iterate: The mower starts, drives and cuts but: It runs rough, back fires and is throwing out lots of smoke. It also feels down on power. For this reason it is sold as seen, with no reserve and a low start price. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange to come and view the mower.
