Mountfield Empress 16sp Es Lawnmower – Self-propelled Electric Start Petrol

This is a great little Mountfield 4 stroke rotary petrol lawnmower - I have had it a few years now but it continues to run perfectly and it still has years of use left. It has a rear roller for giving the lawn the striped effect. The motor powers the rear roller so that it propels the mower along making it easier to get round the garden. The cutting width is 16 as per the name and the mower is fairly light and this makes it easily maneuverable especially along borders. It has a bar which engages the clutch and the engine can be left ticking over until you squeeze the bar to move forward. The throttle is variable speed allowing you to go slowly around edges. The motor is a Tecumseh BVS 153 ES - and includes an electric start which is operated by a key set in to an ignition control mounted near the handle bar - though I haven t tried to use the ES for some years as the battery on these models has a tendency to drain quickly and so I ve always used the pull cord which works perfectly. The flap on the grass box does have a habit of lifting up from the draft created by the spinning blade but this is easily resolved by placing a small block of wood on the flap to weigh it down. One other thing to point out is that I repaired the height adjustment control a few years ago using a pop riveting kit supplied by Mountfield. This has worked fine but it does mean that you have to be careful not to overtighten otherwise you have to undo the cover on the top of the height screw (as shown in the photo) and reset the nut underneath - so long as you take note of this it runs without any problems. I would advise giving it an oil change and possibly a service including sharpening the blade before using it. The engine starts and runs very reliably and I would like to hope someone could get as much pleasure out of using it as I have over the years. I have the original instruction booklet and spark plug spanner supplied by the manufacturer. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the mower and I ll me happy to answer them. Please note I would prefer collection in person from Pinner, Middx please.
